Deadline: Midnight Tonight

by Neil Jensen

Election Day isn’t ahead of us — it’s already here.

Early voting has begun in eight states — including the key battleground of Ohio, where voting begins today — and it will be starting in a dozen more over the next two weeks.

Tonight is also the most important financial reporting deadline of the campaign. The resources we have on hand heading into October will decide the size of our voter registration and Get Out The Vote operations.

The need for your support today is more urgent than it will ever be.

If you haven’t made a donation yet, now is the time to donate. If you donate $30 or more, you’ll receive a limited edition Election Day T-shirt before Friday, October 17th.

You can have a major impact on our strategy for the remainder of the election — including where we can compete and how many voters we can reach.

With voting already under way, we’re racing to register voters and get the high turnout we’ll need to win.

What we do — or don’t do — in these next 34 days will determine whether America gets the change we need or four more years of the same.

Thanks,

David

Update from the Upper Valley

by Neil Jensen

Hi Vermonters!  Kudos for all your great work to date on the Nh side of the river- your efforts are very much appreciated!  Here is the latest from our neck of the woods…..  I am also looking to hear from Vermonters who may have used the Neighbor to neighbor tool- have you been able to make NH calls using that?  Some folks are having trouble…  thanks for letting me know-

Jen Randolph

Hello!  Please read on for some important changes/events/opportunities to help…. Forward this email far and wide—we need to keep increasing our volunteer base…

  1. Save the dates: Get Out the Vote 10/25 to 11/4—our volunteer needs increase dramatically- can you take some time off to help?  Debate watch parties: September 26, October 2, October 7, October 15
  1. Debate watch parties for the first presidential debate, this Friday, September 26.  There is a Hanover party (details and sign-up here) and A Lebanon party (details and sign-up here).   Not in those areas?  Use the Find Events feature on the campaign website to find something closer to you.  Please encourage undecided folks to attend an event, or at least watch the debate!  It will provide a good opportunity to compare the candidates.
  1. Phone banking shifts at the Lebanon office in the Rivermill Complex:  Monday thru Friday you can make calls to senior citizens from 10am -4pm.  Just stop by the office.  Monday through Friday night phone banks run from 4 pm to 9pm.  Sunday night phone banking runs 5pm to 9pm.  Please sign up through a link at the bottom of this message, or call volunteer organizer Bill Carter at   603-667-1469.  Also, please see links below for some opportunities in Vermont, if that is more convenient for you.
  1. Canvassing, or door to door contact with voters, is available out of Hanover EBAs on Saturday at noon, and out of the Lebanon campaign office Saturdays 10 am and 2 pm, and Sundays out of the Lebanon office at noon.  Sign-up and detailed info through the links at the end of this message, or call Bill Carter at 603-667-1469.  Remember to wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather!  Also, please see links below for some opportunities in White River Junction, if that is more convenient for you.
  1. Visibility events are starting up: get out for the morning commute and get folks excited about the election!  The campaign is running a Hanover visibility this Friday the 26th from 7am to 9 am in front of the Hanover Inn, and a Lebanon visibility at the Lebanon Green (Colburn Park) from 7am to 9am  (details and sign-ups for both below) .  Dress for the weather, don your Obama gear, and bring your signs- homemade signs are best.  Also, the Upper Valley Democrats are running  visibility for all democratic candidates every Thursday, from 7:00am to 8:30 am on route 120 just north of the Hanover ramp off of I89, and it would be great to have an Obama presence along with all the other great democratic candidates.
  1. *****Imp’t changes regarding Data Entry*****: Please note that data entry hours have changed— data entry work is now available from 5:30 pm on until all the days calls are entered.  There will not be morning data entry work for now.  If you wish to work on this important job, it is helpful (but not essential) that you bring your own laptop, preferably with wireless card.  We are making lots of calls, and have lots of data to enter, and sometimes are short on computing resources….  Stop by some evening to help out, or call Bill Carter for more information at 603-667-1469.
  1. Food for office:  Can’t call/canvass/enter data?  Can you bring some food by the office to feed volunteers?  Currently we need folks to volunteer to bring healthy food (no sweets, please—more substantial munchies or dinner-type foods—crock pot recipes work well) on Fridays at around 5.  Also needed are weekend donations for our canvassers, including our wonderful VT volunteers who often drive a couple of hours to get here and help us in NH.  For weekends, the Lebanon office needs food on Saturdays at 9:45 am (breakfasty type healthy foods- like bagels and fruit) , and on Sundays at 11am  (breakfasty type healthy foods- like bagels and fruit) and 4 pm  (lunch-type food- soup, sandwiches, etc).  Please call Bill Carter 603-667-1469 if you can help with this!
  1. Other office needs :  The Lebanon office needs a few items if you have them to loan: vacuum cleaner, paper shredders, laptop computers with wireless cards.  PLEASE LABEL ALL LOANED ITEMS WITH YOUR NAME AND PHONE NUMBER!    The office also needs folks to help recycle bottles, cans, and paper, as they can only recycle cardboard on-site.  Can you stop by and take home a bag or two and make sure they get recycled?  Volunteers to occasionally clean the office are also needed.  I will try to make sure some supplies are available at the office, but it would help to bring a vacuum until we have a loaner.  If you are interested in cleaning, call Jennifer at 603-640-6167 to set up a date.
  1. Office Manager, evenings: Can you donate your evenings to serving as Office Manager at the campaign office?  Essentially, you will be training the many volunteers who come by in phone banking techniques, leaving the field staff free to attend to other pressing matters.  Interested?  Call Abbie at the campaign office to find out more at 603-438-3467.
  1. Hard for you to leave the house to volunteer?  You can write a letter to the editor, use the neighbor to neighbor tool to makes calls from home, or offer to provide supporter housing for volunteers who will be coming to NH to help with the campaign (call Marc at the campaign office 603-219-4088 if you can provide housing)

Thanks, everyone!  Please pass along this email, and encourage folks to sign up to Upper Valley for Obama through this link http://my.barackobama.com/page/group/UpperValleyforBarackObama

Help Increase Voter Turnout…

by Neil Jensen

Obama for AmericaVote for Change: Register to vote now Think of all the people you know — your friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors. What if every one of them voted on Election Day?

That’s a lot of votes.

But odds are, many of them aren’t registered — or aren’t sure if they are.

Now there’s an easy way to learn your status and get registered. Our new one-stop voter registration site, VoteForChange.com, lets you do it all: check your registration status, register to vote, request an absentee ballot, and find your early voting site or polling location.

Take a minute today to check out VoteForChange.com, and encourage your friends and family to do the same:

http://my.barackobama.com/vfc

In just the past few weeks, 200,000 people have used VoteForChange.com to register to vote. That’s a remarkable accomplishment, and we’re well on our way to our goal — 1,000,000 people using VoteForChange.com to register to vote before the election.

We’re counting on all of our supporters to help reach this goal by forwarding this email to friends and family.

This election is going to be incredibly close, and we need every single vote we can get to win. But almost everywhere in the country, there are only a couple of weeks left before your registration deadline.

VoteForChange.com makes it easier than ever to confirm your registration. Instead of tracking down the right forms, all you need to do is answer a few basic questions and you’ll be ready to vote.

If you’re not sure if you’re registered or if you have any questions, take a minute to visit the site and make your voice heard on Election Day:

http://my.barackobama.com/vfc

Together, we can turn the tide of the past eight years and bring about the real change this country needs.

But we all need to vote — and first, we all need to be registered.

Thanks for all that you do,

Jon

Jon Carson
National Field Director
Obama for America

P.S. — There are lots of ways to get this important information out there. Help spread the word by adding www.VoteForChange.com to your email footer, or share it with friends on online social networks.

Getting as many people as possible registered to vote, and then making sure they go to the polls, is going to take all of us working together. Thanks.

Attend Camp Obama in Vermont

by Neil Jensen

Obama for America

Learn more about Camp Obama Hi, my name is Jason Powell and I’m the State Director for the Obama campaign here in Vermont. I want to tell you about an exciting program we’re launching called Camp Obama.

During these training sessions, people like you will be taking their support for Barack to the next level by learning the organizing principles that this campaign and our movement for change are built on.

Camp Obama attendees will receive real world organizing experience that will have a direct impact on this election. Graduates of Camp Obama will go on to become Deputy Field Organizers who will lead this campaign to victory in crucial battleground states around the country.

Find out more about this exciting opportunity to take a leadership role in this movement for change.

By participating in Camp Obama, you’ll get the kind of experience that Barack got as a community organizer on the South Side of Chicago, where he learned that real change happens from the bottom up.

That experience transformed Barack’s life and made him who he is today.

Camp Obama is your chance to put those very same principles into action — to win this election and to strengthen democracy in communities around the country.

After completing the program, you’ll be required to work as a Deputy Field Organizer in a battleground state where you’ll organize supporters and help lead our grassroots Get Out The Vote operation.

Apply for a spot at Camp Obama and become a leader in our movement for change:

http://vt.barackobama.com/CampObamaVT

This campaign relies on the passion and enthusiasm of ordinary supporters, but it needs leaders who can organize these supporters and turn their enthusiasm into votes on Election Day.

Camp Obama is your chance to step up and become a leader in this movement.

Thanks,

Jason

An Update from the Upper Valley

by Neil Jensen

Vermonters! Hello, and please consider helping out in the Upper Valley area—you are Obama/Biden NH’s secret weapon!….. Below is our latest update and plea… Best, Jennifer

Hello Upper Valley for Obama, with a special welcome to new members…

Less than 50 days until the election, and recent events underscore how important this election will be to our nation and the world. We’ve seen yet again the devastating effects of changing weather patterns- attributed by many to global warming; we have watched both Lehman Brothers and Merril Lynch fold; the markets here and abroad are reacting strongly; Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were bailed out as there are 9, 800 foreclosures a day…. All this in about a week.

Which is why what we need is ACTION. If you care about the environment, are concerned about the economy, are uneasy at the prospect of a foreign policy fueled by the Bush doctrine and misinformation, want to see women’s rights protected and expanded to include equal pay for equal work, believe all Americans should have access to health care, want veterans to have adequate care and support when they come home…. The list goes on… If the prospect of McCain /Palin facing these issues scares you as it does me….

Then you need to ACT- action garners votes, fretting does nothing. There are many ways you can help:

  1. ATTEND TONIGHT’S (TUESDAY 9/16) ORGANIZING MEERTING AT EBAs IN HANOVER. IF you want to grab food, come around 6 or so, the meeting will start at 7. More information and PLEASE RSVP through this link http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/gs7gv2

Please call or email Jennifer Randolph for details and to sign up. 603-640-6167 jennifer@randolphnp.com
  1. DONATE to the campaign through this link. http://my.barackobama.com/page/outreach/view/main/UpperValleyObamaCampaign Every dollar helps our effort to get this country back on track.
  1. MAKE SURE YOU ARE REGISTERED TO VOTE AND GET AN ABSENTEE BALLOT IF YOU NEED ONE…THEN MAKE SURE EVERYONE IN YOUR FAMILY DOES THE SAME…. HAVE A COLLEGE STUDENT OUT OF STATE? THEY MAY BE ABLE TO VOTE ABSENTEE IN THE ALL-IMPORTANT NH ELECTION. You can get information and check all of the above by going to www.voteforchange.com. Send that link to everyone in your address book!
  1. USE ONLINE NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR TOOLS to contact voters from home through this link http://my.barackobama.com/page/votercontact/details
  1. WRITE A LETTER TO THE EDITOR Get ideas from this link http://my.barackobama.com/page/speakout/nhlte

Barack Obama Tells the Truth

by Neil Jensen

Help Barack and Joe in New Hampshire

by Neil Jensen

Obama for America
Dear Supporter,
Join us in New Hampshire

Now that Barack Obama and Joe Biden have officially accepted the Democratic nominations for President and Vice President, it’s going to be a sprint to Election Day.

As of today, there are less than eight weeks left until November 4th.

Once again, New Hampshire is going to be a crucial general election battleground — and as you’ve been hearing from Obama staff in your state, supporters from all across the northeast will play a huge role in helping to put us over the top.

In each of the last two presidential elections, less than 10,000 votes separated the winner of New Hampshire from the loser. And it was the only state in the country that voted for the Republican candidate in 2000, but the Democratic candidate in 2004.

That’s why this weekend we’re organizing teams of supporters from across the northeast to come to New Hampshire for our Drive for Change weekend canvass.

Sign up to join your fellow supporters and travel to New Hampshire this weekend, or any weekend before November 4th.

Right now, supporters all across the country are hard at work turning their enthusiasm for the Obama-Biden ticket into action — making calls, knocking on doors, and reaching out to undecided voters.

It’s exactly the kind of action that will help us win New Hampshire — but it’s going to take all of us working together.

You can help make a big impact in New Hampshire this weekend by knocking on doors and talking face to face with undecided voters — the most effective way to spread Barack’s message of change.

Make a short trip to New Hampshire and make a big difference today:

http://nh.barackobama.com/nhdriveforchange

We need you to take ownership of this movement and make the final push in these last few weeks.

Thanks for all that you do,

Mindy

Mindy Myers
New Hampshire State Director
Obama for America

P.S. — If you can’t make it to New Hampshire, there are lots of other ways you can support Barack in your own community, without even leaving your home. Check out our new Neighbor to Neighbor tool and get involved today:

A Message from the Upper Valley

by Neil Jensen

Hello Vermonters for Obama! I wanted to share our latest weekly Upper Valley for Obama update with you, as we depend on our Vermont volunteers! Please consider visiting us on the NH side of the Upper Valley so that we can deliver NH to Obama Biden in November… Best, Jennifer Randolph

As the election approaches, our updates will provide vital information to Obama supporters and volunteers. Please encourage all the supporters you know to join our group and mailing list, and forward this email to your contacts.

What’s going on these next few days:

1. Phone banks continue Monday thru Friday at the Lebanon office in the Rivermill complex. We need callers any time from 4 to 8 pm M-Th, and 2-6 pm on Fridays. Also, phone banks in White River W, Th, F and Norwich M. Calling is easy and helpful, and it is fun to get to know other supporters. Be sure to check out the mural of Upper Valley faces for change in the office, and add your own pictures and comments. For details and links to phone bank sign ups, see below.

2. Several canvasses are running out of the Upper Valley this weekend. Saturday, canvass in Hanover starting at noon (out of EBAs restaurant). Sunday, canvass in Lebanon starting at noon (report to Lebanon office in Rivermill). For our Vermont members, there are Sunday canvass caravans departing Montpelier, White River Junction and Springfield to canvass in New Hampshire locations. For those willing to travel a little, there is also a Littleton Sunday canvas. Links for more details and to sign up for all these are below.

3. Upper Valley for Obama Organizing Meeting at EBAs restaurant in Hanover on Tuesday, September 16th. Come meet with other supporters, get buttons and bumper stickers, sign up to volunteer, and let’s brainstorm about how to recruit new members and volunteers, activities, fundraising, etc Pizza buffet available for purchase starting at 6 pm, meeting starts at 7 pm. Sign up and details here: http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/meeting/gs7gv2

3. NH Fundraising Contest! All campaign offices in the state are challenged to bring in as many donations as possible, with the office achieving the highest donation amount by the end of the month receiving a call from Senator Obama! Let’s show our Upper Valley spirit by all giving what we can- every amount counts- through this link http://my.barackobama.com/page/outreach/view/main/UpperValleyObamaCampaign . Our goal is to raise $30,000 for change! Why not honor the work of your favorite community organizer with a donation- let them know that we DO VALUE what they do for all of us and our communities.

4. We need folks to sign up to provide healthy food (no sweets, please) on phone bank nights. Can you drop by the Lebanon office with some healthy snacks or a simple supper? If so, or for more info, please call Jennifer at 603-640-6167.

5. Fundraiser in Thetford. Upper Valley supporters Laurel Mackin and Sarah Martel are hosting a “United for Change Potluck Supper” fundraiser on Saturday, September 21, 4:30 pm, Camp Aloha Hive, Rte. 244, Thetford, VT. There will be great music and beverages provided; bring a dish to share. Suggested donation is $10 per person or $25 per family. Sign up and more details here: http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/fundraising/gs7q8y

6. Don’t forget— display your Obama signs, pins, bumper stickers; take 20 minutes to pen a letter to the editor; commit two to four hours a week to the campaign in some form; recruit a friend or family member to help the campaign…. If all 250 plus folks on the list do this, we are an amazing force. We proved our worth in the primary, delivering the Upper Valley by an overwhelming margin to Obama…. Now is the real test, as the election is less than two months away.

7. Save the dates and stay posted…. For upcoming activities- tabling in Hanover as new Dartmouth students arrive, to make sure they register and plan to vote; visibility events; debate watch parties at EBAs on Friday Sep’t. 26, Thursday, Oct. 2, Tuesday Oct. 7, and Wednesday, Oct. 15.….

Thanks- sign up to volunteer for phone banks and canvasses through the links below. If you need more info, call Marc Wayshak at 603-219-4088.

Let’s get going….

Jennifer
