Feeling Like You Can Take It Easy?

by Neil Jensen

Our friends from HQ would like to make sure that you don’t…

Drive For Change

New Hampshire is very much a battleground - it went to George Bush by 1% in 2000 and John Kerry by 1% in 2004. The polls are tight once again this year, but we have a very real opportunity to take away John McCain’s hopes of winning New Hampshire by Getting Out The Vote and making sure every single supporter is going to the polls on Election Day.

We have come too far to let up now. If you don’t have plans this weekend, or if you can rearrange them, we’re asking again for you to come to New Hampshire.

We only have FOUR days left to elect Barack. We need to work as hard as we can this weekend.

Sign up to help with GOTV this weekend in New Hampshire. Every voter you talk to can make a real difference in this close race.If you don’t have a ride, don’t worry. We have a ride share website, NH.BarackObama.com/NHride that can help you find a ride with another supporter in your area.

C’mon Now: Get Ye to New Hampshire…

by Neil Jensen

Dear Supporter –

Drive for Change to New HampshireHow far are you willing to go to decide the outcome of this election?

How about New Hampshire?

Your help is needed in a crucial battleground state where this race is neck-and-neck.

Volunteers in New Hampshire are working their hearts out. But there’s no way they’ll meet their targets without supporters like you stepping up to join the final push.

Sign up to join us for a trip to New Hampshire and help get out the vote.

There will be plenty of important opportunities to help from home in the coming days. But volunteering in a battleground state is the most important thing you can do right now to make sure Barack is elected president.

We to need to fill 845,252 volunteer shifts in battleground states.

Can you sign up for this weekend, or in the final days before Election Day? Campaign staff in New Hampshire are waiting for you.

Make a difference by traveling to a state where the race is extremely close and help put us over the top:

http://my.barackobama.com/cometoNH

In just 13 days, we’ll finally have a chance to bring the change we need.

But to make it happen, we have to keep fighting for every single vote. We cannot slow down with the finish line in sight.

Thanks for doing your part,

David

David Plouffe
Campaign Manager
Obama for America

P.S. — Next Wednesday, October 29th, supporters around the country are getting together for Last Call for Change house parties.

They’ll watch Barack’s 30-minute national TV presentation and make phone calls to voters in battleground states. Join them by signing up to host or attend a party now:

Weekly Update from the Upper Valley

by Neil Jensen

Hello all-

Pardon the evening edition of this- life is a little busy today.

I am sad to hear the news that Barack’s grandmother is very ill.  Senator Obama has cancelled events on Thursday and Friday so that he can travel to Hawaii to spend some time with her.  Mrs. Madelyn Dunham, or “Toot” as she is affectionately known, played a major role in raising Senator Obama.  Barack and his family have sacrificed a great deal for all of us over the course of this campaign.  Let’s make sure we have Barack’s back, and we work extra hard on Thursday and Friday while he is away.

So here is what’s up….

The Campaign has asked us to conduct an all day phone bank this coming Saturday, October 25, from 9 am to 9 pm. One of the purposes of the phone bank, in addition to reaching out to undecided voters, will be to call supporters and line up enough volunteers for GOTV, including the all day phone banks that will begin on Wednesday, October 29 and continue up through Election Day, November 4.

We need phone volunteers this Saturday, October 25 in the Lebanon campaign office to work the following shifts:

9 am to noon

Noon to 3pm

3pm to 6pm

6pm to 9pm

Please contact the campaign to let them know when you can call this Saturday, either by calling the office 603-448-5508 or by emailing Erin at emwether@mtholyoke.edu

  1. Fundraiser tomorrow, Wednesday, with comic Cindy Pierce at the Lebanon Opera House, 7:30pm.  Half of proceeds to be donated to the campaign.  More info here, and tickets can be purchased here
  1. Make-up Get Out the Vote organizing meeting Thursday at 6:30 pm for those who could not make the meeting this past Sunday.  Please report to the campaign office in the Rivermill complex in Lebanon. This is very important- and bring your calendars.
  1. Phone Banks: Monday thru Friday you can make calls to senior citizens from 10am -4pm.  Just stop by the office.  Monday through Friday night phone banks run from 4 pm to 9pm until Wednesday the 29th when we get into Get Out the Vote mode.  Please sign up through a link at the bottom of this message, or call volunteer organizer Bill Carter at   603-667-1469.  Phone banks run out of Norwich, VT every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  To sign up and find out location, please call the White River Junction office at (802) 295-1443 or Jamie Hess at (508) 364-7522.  Phone Banks are running out of White River Junction on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, from 10am to 8pm.  Sign-up/details links below.
  1. Canvassing: Saturday from a Hanover staging location (see details below: NOT EBAs!) 10 am and 12 noon shifts and a Sunday 12 noon shift; and out of the Lebanon campaign office on Thursday at 4 pm, Saturday 10 am and 2 pm, and Sunday out of the Lebanon office at noon.  Sign-up and detailed info through the links at the end of this message, or call Bill Carter at 603-667-1469.  Remember to wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather!  Caravans from WRJ on Saturday to Claremont at 1 pm and Sunday 11:15 am
  1. Data Entry:  after 5:30 pm in the Lebanon office, River Mill complex.  Bring your laptop (preferably with wireless card) if you have it.
  1. Visibility:  Thursday mornings are visibility mornings!  Meet at 7 am to 9am on route 120 near I-89 exit in Lebanon.  Dress warmly, bring signs and enthusiasm!  Let’s get the voters fired up!   Also consider working at the Hanover sidewalk table 4-6pm weekdays and 11am-3pm weekends. Call Jamie Hess at (508) 364-7522 if you have questions.  As we get closer to Get Out the Vote, stay tuned for more…
  1. Food Donations: Currently we need folks to volunteer to bring healthy food (no sweets, please—more substantial munchies or dinner-type foods—crock pot recipes work well) on Fridays at around 5.  Also needed are weekend donations for our canvassers, including our wonderful VT volunteers who often drive a couple of hours to get here and help us in NH.  For weekends, the Lebanon office needs food on Saturdays at 9:45 am (breakfasty type healthy foods- like bagels and fruit) , and on Sundays at 11am  (breakfasty type healthy foods- like bagels and fruit) and 4 pm  (lunch-type food- soup, sandwiches, etc).  Please call Bill Carter 603-667-1469 if you can help with this!  Weekday lunches for the campaign staff are also appreciated.
  1. Signs:  OK…. So there has been some frustration with yard signs not getting out as fast as some would like.  Well, signs don’t vote, but- fair enough-  we still like them… so get creative.  Go to one of these websites and make your own customized Obama sign…. Put it in your car side windows, or cover it with some clear contact paper and put it on a post in your yard.  AND THEN GO VOLUNTEER AT THE OFFICE!  Please J

Update from the Upper Valley

by Neil Jensen

Hi Vermonters…  another weekly update to share…

Hello all and welcome to our new members!  This is a quick update on events and volunteer opportunities for the upcoming week.  More detailed information and sign-up is available through the links at the end of the message.

Polls in NH are looking good, BUT WE DON”T BELIEVE IN POLLS!  We keep working like we are 20 down now through Election Day—so please, help us out and encourage others to do the same.  There is too much at stake for complacency…  Also, NH absentee ballots are now being sent out- has your college student voted yet?  Make it easy for them—have them apply for a ballot by sending them this link http://www.longdistancevoter.org/drupal_files/voter_forms/NewHampshire_absentee_english.pdf  .   My oldest treated me to hearing the mailbox open and close via cell phone as she mailed off her ballot from Boston.  The youth vote is vital, and we want to encourage our kids to be active voters this election and into the future.  Remember, www.voteforchange.com is a great resource for info on absentee registering, voting, polling locations, etc.  Check it out and pass it on.

  1. DEBATE WATCH TONIGHT AT EBAS!  Start gathering in the back room around 8:30 pm, debate starts at 9pm.  For more details and to sign up to attend, use this link: http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/organizing/gs7grj
  1. WEDNESDAY WOMEN TO WOMEN SPECIAL EVENT:  Come to the office on Wednesday by 5 pm to help phone bank, and meet special guest Senator Sheldon Whitehouse from Rhode Island.  Remember, Wednesday phone banking especially encourages women to attend to call women voters, but all are welcome and needed!  Sign up for Wednesday phone bank below.
  1. PHONE BANKS: Monday thru Friday you can make calls to senior citizens from 10am -4pm.  Just stop by the office.  Monday through Friday night phone banks run from 4 pm to 9pm.  Sunday night phone banking runs 5pm to 9pm. Phone Banks are running out of White River Junction on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, from 4pm to 8pm.  Sign-up/details links below.
  1. CANVASSES (visiting voters door to door):  out of Hanover EBAs (meet outside) on Saturday at 10 and another shift at 12 noon, and Sunday at noon;  and out of the Lebanon campaign office on Thursday at 4 pm, Saturday 10 am and 2 pm, and Sunday out of the Lebanon office at noon.  Sign-up and detailed info through the links at the end of this message, or call Bill Carter at 603-667-1469.  Remember to wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather!  Also, please see links below for some opportunities to caravan out of  White River Junction, if that is more convenient for you.
  1. VISIBILITY: Thursday mornings are visibility mornings!  Meet at 7 am to 9am on route 120 near I-89 exit in Lebanon.  Dress warmly, bring signs and enthusiasm!  Let’s get the voters fired up!  Sign up here: http://my.barackobama.com/page/event/detail/organizing/gshqtt
  1. FOOD DONATIONS NEEDED Currently we need folks to volunteer to bring healthy food (no sweets, please—more substantial munchies or dinner-type foods—crock pot recipes work well) on Fridays at around 5.
  1. DATA ENTRY Data entry work is generally available after 5:30 pm each evening, until it is done.  If you have a laptop (preferably with wireless network card!), please bring it along.
  1. SUPPORTER HOUSING NEEDED:  as we approach the election, we will see more and more volunteers come to our battleground state.  Do you have a spare room or couch bed you could offer for a week, a weekend, or a night?  We are compiling a supporter housing list.  Your requests will be honored (smoking, gender, pets, etc).  Please call Bill Carter at 603-667-1469 you can offer this very valuable service any time between now and the election.
  1. GET OUT THE VOTE (GOTV) is fast approaching.  Can you take some time off?  Help recruit other volunteers?  Please make arrangements now to be available during the crucial October 28th to November 4th period.
  1. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR- There have been lots of great letters appearing in the Valley News, but how about the Spectator?  Can you write a letter about why you support Senator Obama?  Or clarifying how his tax plan will affect most folks?  Chek out this link, and get writing!  http://www.cvspectator.com/CV/Opinion/Letters/Submit/

THANKS EVERYONE!  KEEP IT UP AND SHARE THIS WITH OTHER—

Vote Early for Barack

by Neil Jensen

Dear Supporter –

Vote early in Vermont Starting today, Monday, October 6th, every day is Election Day in Vermont because you can vote early — in person or by mail.

Early voting is fast, easy, and it could make the difference in this election. Show your friends and family that you’ve made up your mind and you’re ready for change now.

Take the first step today. Take a moment now to request your Mail-In Ballot, or find your early voting location.

Early voting is simple, safe, and convenient. It’s also a vital part of our strategy.

The more supporters who make their voices heard now, the more energy and resources we can devote to our Get Out The Vote efforts closer to Election Day.

Vote early today and see if you can get five or more friends to vote early with you.

All across the country, supporters like you are working together to grow this movement for change. We know that Vermont families can’t afford four more years of failed Bush-McCain policies.

That’s why we need you to help make sure we have an advantage in Vermont before Election Day.

Take a moment now to fill out some basic information and make your voice heard:

http://www.voteforchange.com

This is our chance to take America in a new direction — so the next four years don’t look like the last eight.

We can’t do this without you.

Thanks,

Barack

P.S. — Once you’ve gone through the process, tell us about it. Did you take people with you? What are you going to do on Election Day, now that you’ve already voted? Share your early vote story today:
